{she's going the distance}

One of my favorite songs on my playlist is Going The Distance by Cake. I remember when I'd go to my brother's track meets, they'd play this song and I'd get goose bumps, just thinking about running in one of the races! I can imagine that's how the runners felt...well...that mixed with nausea and lots of nerves.

Anyway, this song has kind of become my running anthem. I can't help but get a little theatrical as I run. I kind of act out whatever song I'm listening to. Hey, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do to enjoy running! Especially when the girl is totally out of shape! Don't hate, just cause you don't got moves like me, baby! For example, when I hear Kung Fu Fighting, I can't help but do a few karate chops as I run. And with this song, I sometimes run all dramatically like I'm finishing a marathon and I'm on my last leg and the crowd is cheering me on. I'll put my fists in the air all Rocky like (I have yet to yell Adrienne!), and usually when I do this while I'm running, I really feel like I am on my last leg, so part of me is acting and the other part really does what to die. But imagining the crowd cheering me on keeps me going.

That is why I'm running in the BYU Homecoming Cougar Run. I know it's no marathon, but I love that feeling as you're coming around the bend and people are there cheering for you. I remember when I ran the Race For the Cure (another 5k) I was almost done and I was so tired and suddenly I could hear hundreds of people cheering the runners on. I was so overcome, that I seriously got a little teary eyed, and then I got this huge adrenaline rush and I finished.

Well my friends, you too can experience this feeling. My friend Lisa and I are running the 5k, and if you're interested in joining us, let me know! It's October 11 and the race starts at 9:45. If you register by Sept. 15 it's only $15! All the info you need is here.

We can karate chop our way to the finish line, or do the Rocky Run and scream Adrienne! as shown below. Hoo-ha!

I've always wanted to do a marathon. But I'm a horrible runner. :(

Maybe if I start jogging now I can prepare myself for Oct 11th.

I vote for karate chopping AND doing the Rocky Run and screaming Adrienne on the finish line! Can't wait to hear all about your adventures with the 5K! Yaya! Go you!

Can I request that you not listen to music during the 5k...I don't want to accidentally get karate chopped as we're running!
