???
Does anyone know what causes side aches while jogging? I was fine for the first 15 minutes, then I took a deep breath, and BAM! it hurt like hell!
P.S. I ate a small piece of wheat toast about an hour before I ran and drank a glass of water with it. Could this have caused it?

They're called side stitches and they hurt REALLY bad. The two things that help relieve that is proper breathing while running and also making sure you have good shoes. Whenever I start to get them, I know it's time to retire my running shoes and get new ones!

Dangit, I always get those horrible side aches! I just figured it was because I'm out of shape!

yeah I try to make sure I breath correctly while I'm running and usually that helps prevent them. Some people belly breathe while they run to help prevent them, but I just try to maintain a good breathing rhythm.

Eat more bananas. I like to eat a banana an hour or two before a run. Or, you can take potassium supplements.

Sounds kind of goofy, I know. But....it really works. That remedy comes from my younger brother (he plays college football and suffers from pretty bad side stitches.) Bananas/potassium work wonders for helping with muscle cramps. Not sure if a side stitch is really a muscle cramp or not, or why eating bananas helps...but give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised?

Keep up the good work!
